Donate My Body to Science in Tallahassee, FL

For students and researchers in the medical field, there is no resource more important or more precious than human tissue. Real human tissue is the best, most accurate material to help train the surgeons of tomorrow. It’s also crucial for properly testing new medicines and treatment techniques.

Real human tissue is hard to come by, however. That’s why medical schools and research institutions rely on whole body donations from those who have passed away.

United Tissue Network is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that helps provide students and researchers with the tissue they need to save lives. Registering to become a donor is easy, and it offers a number of unique advantages over other funerary arrangements.

How to Donate Your Body to Science in Tallahassee, FL

Whether you’re hoping to pledge yourself or register a loved one, becoming a whole body donor has never been easier. Here at UTN, we use the three-pronged S.E.T. system so almost anyone can donate, regardless of age or health situation.

S.E.T. stands for…

Self-Registration – If you are in good health but thinking ahead for the future, you can contact UTN at any time to pledge to become a donor. After filling out some simple paperwork, we will send you a Donor Pledge identification card confirming your registration. It’s just that simple.

End-of-Life Registration– Individuals who have a diagnosed life expectancy of six months or less can contact UTN either directly or through a legally authorized representative to seek donation preapproval. Once a donor has been approved, a Donor Security Certificate will be issued. This acts as our promise to you that we will accept your donation regardless of any changes to your medical record following the approval process.

Time-of-Passing Registration – If you are a friend or relative of someone who has already passed on without receiving donation approval, you can still help them carry out their final wishes. All that’s required is for you and/or the deceased’s legal next of kin to contact UTN. Upon receiving proper consent allowing us to accept the donation, UTN will take care of all arrangements.

Eco-Friendly Funeral Alternatives in Tallahassee, FL

According to research cited by the BBC, many countries in the world are facing a growing crisis. Simply put, they’re running out of burial space. As more and more cemeteries reach full capacity, we are increasingly left with the choice of converting more natural land into burial grounds… or finding funeral alternatives.

Among all the available funeral alternatives in Tallahassee, FL, whole body donation is one of the most environmentally friendly. Donating your body to science not only reduces the need for additional cemetery space, it also reduces greenhouse gas emissions and prevents the introduction of toxic embalming chemicals into the soil.

Donating vs. Cost of Cremation in Tallahassee, FL

In direct contrast to how the amount of available burial space in the world is shrinking, funeral expenses are growing. In fact, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics has found that the costs associated with traditional funerals have risen every single year since 1986.

Although cremation is usually viewed as a more economical choice, the average cost of cremation in Tallahassee, FL is about $2,500. This means that families in mourning don’t have a lot of affordable options to pick from.

Fortunately, when you donate your body to science in Tallahassee, FL, you can do so with the knowledge that every step of the process—from transportation to storage to documentation—is covered by UTN.

What’s more, the remains of every UTN donor are cremated at a licensed local crematorium upon program completion. Relatives can then have their loved ones’ ashes returned to them or scattered at sea as part of the UTN Memorial Program. Important to note is that all these services are available at no charge.
